Welcome to experience the legendary sauna by the mountain stream!
Sauna shifts can be reserved for current and next week from this website.
Public smoke sauna sessions can be booked for the current and following week. Snowshoeing and smoke sauna, and Secret of Smoke Sauna are open for bookings for the winter season.
On December smoke sauna is heated from Monday to Saturday.
Below you’ll find a few tips and practical guidelines to help you enjoy your sauna experience as comfortably as possible.
We recommend bringing your own swimsuit and towel. These are also available for rent at our reception (€5 / towel, €5 / swimsuit). Swim shoes or sandals can be useful when moving around the sauna area and walking to the ice-swimming spot.
Upon arrival, please collect your sauna wristband from the main building (reception / café cashier). Our sauna host will be present at the smoke sauna to check wristbands and ensure guests’ safety.
Please note that this is a public sauna, and there may be up to approximately 25 bathers during the same session. A principle familiar from wilderness huts applies here as well: please make room on the benches for newcomers, sit closer together when needed, and step out to cool down occasionally — the last one in may not yet have a seat.
The beginning of each sauna session is usually the busiest. If you wish, you may arrive 5–10 minutes later, when the changing rooms are calmer and you can enjoy the sauna at a slightly different rhythm from the rest of the group. Each session lasts 1.5 hours, so there is plenty of time to relax.
Children are also welcome in the smoke sauna. Families are kindly asked to pay special attention to slippery walkways and move carefully.
Sauna bathing and ice swimming are memorable experiences, but children experience heat differently than adults. Children should not stay on the benches as long, and it is important to check regularly how the heat feels. Please also ensure adequate hydration after sauna bathing.
Our smoke sauna is mixed for men and women, so wearing a swimsuit is mandatory. Separate changing rooms and showers for men and women are located next to the sauna. Please shower before entering the sauna. Small lockable lockers for valuables are available in the changing rooms.
Only warm water may be thrown on the stove. Please be considerate of other bathers when adding steam, and take care when filling the water bucket.
Even with heated mats, walkways may be slippery, so please move carefully. Studded shoes are not allowed in the sauna area in order to protect the heating mats.
From the smoke sauna, you can also take a dip in the ice-swimming hole. After the steps, the water depth is approximately 1.4 metres.
Sauna drinks may be enjoyed on the sauna terrace. Our minimarket (next to reception) sells refreshments as well as ice-swimming footwear and other small items.
If you take photos, please respect the privacy of others and make sure they are not visible in your pictures. Do not leave your camera recording unattended.
If you feel like staying for dinner after your sauna, our Restaurant Kammi is open until 21:00 (kitchen until 20:30). You can also order pizzas for takeaway to enjoy after your sauna session.
Hotel Niilanpää saunas are warm every day from 4 pm to 8 pm.
The hotel sauna is free for hotel guests. During the winter season, the ice swimming spot is also available for visitors to the hotel sauna during the sauna opening hours. (Using the smoke sauna requires an additional fee.)
Would you like to reserve the sauna for private use?
