Is there an airport transfer from Ivalo Airport to Kiilopää?
There is an airport bus connection from Ivalo Airport to Kiilopää and from Kiilopää to the airport. The airport bus schedule is published monthly on the Eskelisen Lapin Linjat website. Tickets do not need to be booked in advance, but can be purchased from the bus driver with a card or cash. Groups must report their arrival in advance.
Kiilopää can be reached by land and public transport by bus or first by train to Rovaniemi and then by bus to Kiilopää. Please note when checking the timetables that the bus stop for Kiilopää is Kiilopää (Inari), not all Rovaniemi – Ivalo buses stop right at our yard. You can plan travel chains, for example, on the website https://matka.fintraffic.fi/?locale=en.
Suomen Latu in Kiilopää has a minimarket with a limited selection of food items, such as cheese, spreads, milk and yoghurt. There are also dry food items, such as noodles, candy, chips and coffee. The nearest grocery store is in Saariselkä, about 14 km away.
During the winter season, the smoke sauna is heated from Monday to Saturday, and during the summer season on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Public hours are 3-4:30 PM, 4:30-6 PM and 6-7:30 PM. Ticket price 21 € / adult and 11 € / under 12-yearsold. Members of Finnish Outdoor Association (Suomen Latu) 18 € / adult and 9 € / under 12-years old.
The smoke sauna has separate changing rooms for men and women, and the changing rooms also have showers and toilets. There are small lockers for valuables in the changing rooms.

There are route maps at the starting gate of Urho Kekkonen National Park, where you can explore the guided routes starting from Kiilopää. You can plan your route in advance on Metsähallitus’ luontoon.fi website.
The Kiilopuro swimming spot and changing rooms are open to everyone daily from 7 am to 2:45 pm. Please note that the showers in the changing rooms are not open during the day.
Suomen Latu Kiilopää customers have a parking lot where you can park your car if you are staying with us or are visiting Kiilopää during the day. If you are staying in a cottage, there is a parking lot in front of the cottage where you can leave your car. If you want to park your car for multiple days for example during a hike, parking is available at the hotel parking lot for a fee (5 €/day). In the courtyard a little further from the main building there is also a Metsähallitus parking lot, where long-term parking is also free of charge.
We are happy to organize various parties and events. We have organized parties from small birthday parties to dinners for over a hundred people. Turf hut Maahinen is an atmospheric space that is suitable for events for 20-50 people. Restaurant Kammi has seating for 60 people and Kiilopääsali can accommodate for up to a hundred people.

To make your hiking trip safe and enjoyable, it is a good idea to check the weather forecast in advance and dress appropriately. While on the move you usually need lighter clothing than when you are resting, which makes you want to wear an extra layer, especially in the cooler months. You should bring enough water and snacks. You should always reserve a tent for overnight hikes, even if you plan to stay in a wilderness hut. Guided hikes are a good way to learn about safe hiking, as you can learn a lot about equipment, nature and safety.
In Kiilopää, you can stay with your pet in all Wilderness cabins and some of the log cabins. In the main building, pets are welcome in the lobby and on the terrace. In the winter season, a dog-friendly ski trail starts from the yard. Dogs must always be on a leash in the national park.
Kiilopää and it’s Adventure Shop is the top spot to start your outdoor adventure. For the winter you can rent skis, snowshoes, bikes and winter camping equipment. For the summer, you’ll find all the necessary hiking gear, from tents and stoves to lightweight sleeping bags. At our rental shop, you can purchase maps, mosquito nets, camping pillows, and various cycling accessories.
Kiilopää is a great place to stay with children. Several easy hiking trails start from the courtyard. In addition to hiking, in the summer season there is a frisbee golf course, orienteering track and the Ahopää playground. Kiilopää family weeks in February and July bring together families interested in outdoor activities. The family weeks program includes, for example, Moomin ski school and snowshoeing in winter. In the summer the program includes hiking and yard games.
There is a ski waxing room on the ground floor of the hotel building with racks and waxing irons. You must bring your own wax or you can buy it from Kiilopää Adventures rental shop.
There is a Ski bus, airport buses and local buses between Kiilopää and Saariselkä in the winter season, and airport buses and local buses in the summer season. You can follow the local bus schedules at matkahuolto.fi/en. The name of the Kiilopää stop is “Kiilopää (Inari)”. The most versatile stop in Saariselkä is “Holiday Club Saariselkä”. In the summer you can go hiking, trail running, mountain biking, geocaching, frisbee golf and many other summer sports. In the autumn you can enjoy the autumn foliage in Kiilopää from the end of August onwards. Different shades of red shine on the slopes of the fell on clear autumn days and what could be nicer than going hiking or cycling in the autumn fell. Winter sports in Kiilopää include skiing, fell skiing, winter cycling, snowshoeing and winter swimming. In addition to guided activities, the surroundings of Kiilopää also offer activities for more independent travellers.
The Suomen Latu Kiilopää café-restaurant serves breakfast, soup lunch and dinner from a buffet. There is always a vegetarian option and meat and/or fish options. Pizzas and burgers are available from the afternoon onwards. Turvekammi Maahinesen organizes pancake breakfasts weekly. The a la carte restaurant Kammi is open during the winter season.
There are numerous biking trail options in Kiilopää that will take you to stunning landscapes. You can choose an easier cross-country trail or a more challenging trail that will take you higher up into the fells. In the Kiilopää area there are only fell streams where fishing is not possible. For example, the Ivalojoki River is a good alternative for fishing; more information and fishing permits can be found at Metsähallitus Eraluvat.fi online store.
